Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I have to sign up ahead of time to attend the Walk & Wag for Veterans?
A. No! Feel free to just stop by that day to join the fun, peruse the raffle, grab a bite to eat, let your dog sip at the Yappy Hour water bar, meet the gang from the Karlson & McKenzie Show, and walk on the beautiful trails. Those who register ahead of time are committing to help us reach our fundraising goal by asking friends and family to sponsor their walk. But the event is open to all!
Q. Can I bring my dog?
A. Yes, dogs are welcome at Great Brook Farm State Park as long as they are leashed and friendly. Bikes and horses are welcome, too!
Q. How do I register to walk?
A. Just click the tab on the left that says "Register to Walk." The instructions will walk you through the easy creation of your own fundraising page, which you can then send to family, friends, coworkers, and anyone else you think might be interested in helping veterans who suffer from brain injury and PTSD.
Q. I'm having trouble entering my goal amount when I register: The system will not accept it.
A. When entering your goal amount, the system will only accept numerals and a period. For example, if you want to choose a goal of $500, just enter 500. If you use a dollar sign, a space, or a comma, the amount will not be accepted. If you still run into problems, contact the website's host at email@example.com.
Q. How much of the money I raise will be used to help disabled veterans and homeless dogs?
A. All of it. The Walk & Wag for Veterans is the main annual fundraiser for Operation Delta Dog, a Chelmsford-based organization that rescues shelter dogs and trains them to work as service dogs for veterans who suffer from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). For more information about the organization, click on the tab "About OpDD" to the left. You can also visit OpDD's website at www.OperationDeltaDog.org.
Q. How many people will be at the Walk & Wag for Veterans?
A. In its first year, 2013, the event attracted about 150-200 people; in 2016 we estimated the crowd at 400-500 visitors. We hope to see even more this year!
Q. Where do I park?
A. Great Brook Farm State Park has several parking areas; most attendees should be able to fit in the main parking area closest to the pavilion, where we'll be set up. The state park charges $2 per car for parking, which visitors can pay at an automated machine in the lot.
Q. Will there be food at the event?
A. Yes! We plan on having two food trucks attend the event to provide an array of lunch and snack options. You won't go home hungry!
Q. What else can I expect to see at the Walk & Wag for Veterans?
A. Last year at the 2016 Walk & Wag we were thrilled to include the Karlson & McKenzie Morning Show from 100.7 WZLX! We also had balloon animals from the one-and-only Jonas Cain, a Yappy Hour doggie bar with water and treats, Silent Auction & 50/50 raffle, plus plenty of food, music, OpDD merchandise tables, and more. The state park also had farm animals to visit and numerous beautiful walking trails.
This year, for the 2017 Walk & Wag, we will have all of the above plus: Flying High Frisbee Dogs with Mike Piazza, Fancy Faces Face Painting by Kim Chiasson, and Caricature Illustrations by Michael Lynch!
